I’m dippin’ in here to let y’all know I’m not abandonin’ ship.  This blogger is not goin’ away.

Still grapplin’ with the movers over my  shyt-which includes my baby, The Computer.   My gkids  have cruelly and brutally dispatched the Mac to greener pastures, so I’m at the library as we speak…

Hang in there with me; datGurl!  is workin’ on a plan.  I will be back with my wonderfully opinionated wit soon!

Until then, please feel free to browse the archives.  Just  like a box of chocolates, you don’t know WHAT the fluck you might find!

XOXO,

(I apologize for the lack of graphics and my sig-again, I’m still without MY shyt…*)

Make Yo’ Mama Proud!~

by datGurl!

This is an AMAZIN’ young lady, here!

Layin’ up watchin’ late night/early mornin’ TV news and they ran a piece on this lil lady; had me sittin’ up by the time it was over…

Saheela Ibraheem is only fifteen and still in high school (a senior!) but has been accepted at 13 colleges- includin’ six of the eight Ivy League schools. Yale was the one that popped off a rejection letter.  Why?  Who knows or cares?

Eager to learn more about her favorite subject, math, the daughter of Nigerian immigrants asked to move to a higher-level class. The school let her skip sixth grade entirely.

By high school, Saheela said, she was no longer feeling challenged by her public school classes. So, she moved to the Wardlaw-Hartridge School, a 420-student private school, where she skipped her freshman year and enrolled as a 10th-grader.   Her three younger brothers, twins now in the ninth grade and a younger brother in second grade, all eventually joined her at the school.

And she is a three-sport athlete-softball, soccer and swimmin’, sings alto in the school choir, plays trombone for the band and is President of the school investment club.  Isn’t she just wonderful?

She has settled on Harvard and will be the youngest member of the 2011 freshman class.  She’s decidin’ between neurobiology and neuroscience…

Its upliftin’ to read about a young black person that is not cuffed up, on the run, or dead or dyin’…

You go girl!~

Happy C-Day, Tif*A*Nay*Nay!~

by datGurl!
This post is dedicated to my fav neice, Tiffani Chavon Wright.   Today is her birthday.
Tiffani is special; she has a heart of gold , sometimes way to big for her own good.  Tiff is ‘Momma” to all her lil sisters and brothers (and anybody else who needs her), and always ready and willin’ to help no matter if it means gettin’ out of her bed at dark:30 to handle it.
When I first took the job at Cingular (now AT&T) I came to stay with Tif.  She opened her home to me, and didn’t ask for a thin dime.  Cooked her ass off, tho.
And I know it’s hard to live with someone who is 20+ yrs older than you,  and not want to kill them, but she did.
Her soul is pure and undriven; she loves directly from the ♥, no matter who you be, where you been, and what your about.  Everybody gets two- or three chances with Tif…

::isn't she gorgeous?::

She just special.  And I love her to death.
Happy CDay, Baby Gurl!~

A Good Woman…

A good woman is proud. She respects herself and others.
She is aware of who she is. She neither seeks definition from the person she is with, nor does she expect them to read her mind. She is quite capable of articulating her needs.

A good woman is hopeful. She is strong enough to make all her dreams come true. She knows love, therefore she gives love. She recognizes that her love has great value and must be
reciprocated. If her love is taken for granted, it soon disappears.

A good woman has a dash of inspiration and a dabble of endurance.
She knows that she will at times have to inspire others to reach their full potential. A good woman knows her past, understands her present and forces toward the future.

A good woman does not live in fear of the future because of her past. Instead, she understands that her life experiences are
merely lessons meant to bring her closer to self-knowledge and unconditional self-love.

Take One 4 The Team!

by datGurl!

This is such a story of strength, dedication and determination.  A real feel-good story…

Holland Reynolds is, and always will be, a champion in my book all day long!

The 16 yr old is captain of University High School (SF., CA) girl’s cross-country team, and ranked 3rd in the state.  She was in 2nd place with a half mile to go in the CIF state championship meet in Fresno.

She collapse meters short of the finish line.

“My legs started to feel heavy and I started to slow down a lot and I felt I couldn’t run anymore.  I was breathing really heavily, hyperventilating. My hands were really cold at that point.”

The state championship was on the line. Instead of quittin’, Holland crawled her ass over that  finish line!

She did it for her coach, Jim Tracy, who was diagnosed with Lou Gehrig’s  last summer.  He is a dedicated coach, still with the team even though he had occasional slurred speech, scrambled thoughts and little energy, sometimes fallin’ down at practice and  had taken  to sittin’  in a chair for their workouts.   She wanted his last season to go out with a bang.

She finished 37th out of 169.    THEY GOIN’ TO THE CHAMPIONSHIP!

This story brought tears to my eyes…

Kudos to this selfless young lady.   I’m on “Team Holland”  from here on out!

(*feelin’  all  warm & squishy*)

Say a Lil’ Prayer…

by datGurl!

Ms. Aretha! The  Legendary Queen of Soul needs our prayers…   Ms. Aretha Franklin, is ailing’ and needs us to send ‘em up!

Recent reports say her health is ‘declinin’…

Fans held a candle light vigil and prayer for her last night in downtown Detroit.  Last month, she canceled all of her concert dates and appearances all the way out to May 2011Doctors orders.  This must be pretty serious…

No one’s talkin about the exact nature of this ‘illness’.

The Queen couldn’t come to the vigil (of course) but did send her love and appreciation to her fans, lettin’  them know all prayers are good.

The procedure is schedule for today.  Lets all pray she comes thru it with flyin’ colors, and gets back to the music.

Keep her in y’all’s prayers…

50 Shots Settled for $7.5Milli

by datGurl!

paid... finally.

Well. well. well …  The City of NY has ‘settled’ for the Sean Bell police shooting.

Now ‘scuse me for trippin’, but didn’t they ACQUIT all these asshol3s  in the criminal phase of this boy’s death?    So why would they pay like they weigh in a civil suit for wrongful death?  I mean, hey- you did nothin’ wrong-right?

Under the agreement, the city will pay Paultre Bell, almost wifey and the mother of Sean Bell’s two children, $3.25Milli, according to a source familiar with the settlement.

Bell’s pals Joseph Guzman, 35, will receive $3Milli, and Trent Benefield, 27, will be granted $900,000.   That’s a lotta dolo, boo…either way you chop it up- in this economy especially…  but it wont change that night.

Of course, the Detective’s Union prez, Michael Palladino called the settlement “an absolute joke.”      He’s a racist idiot…

“The police were there doing their lawful duty.   Bell was intoxicated and tried to run them over,” Palladino said.   ”The taxpayers are now on the hook for $7 million.   There’s something seriously wrong with that picture.”

OK- but in the course of doin’ they job, did they have to lob a fusillade of 50 police bullets,  killin’  Sean at his bachelor party, on the night before his wedding to his gurl-  aint somethin’ wrong with THAT picture?   5-0 even tried to say Sean had a gat,  but no weapon was ever found.  So they lied.    Three detectives were acquitted of state charges last year, but The Feds’ civil rights investigation is continuin’.    Also still pendin’ is a civil damage suit against the City of NY.

It didn’t take all that.  It just didn’t.  And now this boy is dead, his kids don’t have a dad,  a mother has lost her son…someone should pay.  It didn’t take all this…

They sorry and they guilty.  They named a street after the boy last year.  “Sean Bell Way“.   I’m sure everyone who goes down that street will remember those 50 shots…

That money will never bring Sean back, but it sho’ is good incentive to try and forget…

Payin’ It Forward In The Sewer, Literally

by datGurl!

::after all this doom and gloom, here’s a warm and squishy, feel good story::

Jack Robinson a  sewer worker in Oak Harbor, WA, workin’ for the Wastwater Division, was flushin’ a storm water drain when somethin’ caught his eye.  He spotted a ring out of nowhere and while he was tryin’ to compute that, another one popped up!

A closer look:  one was a Class of 1993 Oak Harbor High School ring.  That was his class too.  The ring was engraved “C.V.”  The other one was a diamond-encrusted aquamarine birthstone belongin’ to her mother, Harriet.  It was the ‘something old, borrowed and blue’ Cynthia Vick wore when she married her husband.

Jack is so cool!  He looked up everyone in his class with those initials and found Cynthia Allen, who was Cynthia Vick in high school, on Facebook!

Jack: weird, I know, but did u lose 2 rings?
Cynthia: Yes!

Turns out, Cynthia lost the rings a whole year ago.  Her pet ferrets  accidentally knocked her two favorite rings in the toilet, and they were flushed unknowingly.  (Dayumm!)   She thought they were lost for good.

Dude was honest as the day is long.  I now mofo’s that would be at the pawn shop right now.

They barely knew each other in high school, but they’re buds now.  And Jack just found someone else’s class ring in the sewer.  He lookin for them on FB, too!

I have a whole new respect for mankind…

::just coz… they cute:: Future Funk!

by datGurl!

Lil Playas*Lawd, if these aint THE cutest lil boys!  I was watchin’  America’s Got Talent (which I NEVER watch! I’m just havin’ problems with this dayumm digital antennae.   I swear this is a conspiracy amongst the cable companies to force you to buy they shyt!)

Two lil boys, Miles “Baby Boogaloo” Brown, age 5, and his dance partner Bailey “Bailrok” Munoz, 9 took the stage. Their lil two-man dance crew, is called Future FunK, (that’s the way they spell it!) ,  from Oxnard, CA.

YOU JUST HADDA SEE THESE LIL BOYS!    They were so cute, and lil Miles, and his retro afro, was just too-too much.

The crowd was on they feet.  These lil playas even danced to some James Brown shyt,”Supa Bad“!

The judges, Sharon Osbone (Ozzy’s gurl!), Piers Morgan, and the newest one, Howie Mandel (Deal or No Deal-  he  evidently replaced drunk-ass David Hasselhoff as a judge this season.   ’Prolly was a good idea.     He was doin’ too much… ) were beside themselves.     The lil boys mother (who was actually cryin‘!)  and Nick Cannon (dressed kinda crazy-wassup with the blue suspenders?)  were dancin’ backstage.

And they got 3 “Yes’s”.   Yeah, they  goin’ to the next round!~
