This question was raised by a friend Sensuality, on urbansoulz.com , (another cool place I hang out), in reply to Sandra Bullock’s adoption of the 3-1/2 month old child from New Orleans.
Where are the Black celebrities when all these distressed children from Africa and Haiti and the like, need homes?
We have seen in the news lately, all these minority/black children bein’ adopted by the Madonnas, the Brad & Angelinas, etc. With the exception of Oprah, and a few other black stars, you don’t really here anything about them helping out the children of Africa, let alone adoptin’ any. And many would argue, why should we help out another country, when our own isn’t doing so hot in the same area? There are millions of kids in America who need loving homes…(concreteloop.com)
Ok but they are not adoptin’ those either. I’m not upset that these white folks are adoptin’ black children. I have questions about some of their motives, and the environment the child may be reared in, which I will address later. But I am upset that there aren’t more Black Celebs steppin’ up and rescuein’ one from the homelands.
Black folks are not, culturally, just into adoption. We’ve always had too many of our own mouths to feed. If a family did take in somebody, it was more than likely a family member or distant Cousin Somebody. I think that and the fact that most of this NuVo Rich Black Folks maybe came from some of that, and just concentrate on takin’ care of their own. I do see these younger ones would rather have a baby than adopt a baby…
People want to sometimes see these white folks doin’ all this adoptin’ of black children as some sort of fad. I don’t, really. The whole idea of adoption is to put some disadvantaged child in a better situation, and that’s happenin’. Maybe they think their ‘givin’ back’, or ‘apologizin’-and that’s ok. The main thing is I think that they can love these children in their own way, and take good care of them.
(In my lil research I ascertained that it is easier to adopt a foreign child as opposed to an American white child, and that’s the reason all the soulful white folks are goin’ overseas and adoptin’)
I do question the fact that some of these kids may not ever be taught about their culture. Madonna and Brad don’t know Black History, enuff to teach these children who they are. They don’t even know (and evidently no one else around them!) how to comb these lil Black kids hair!. Bless they hearts…they should hire someone.
I would like know what the Black Glitterati has to say about their position on this issue. I’ma put the question out there.

HOW in the Sam H3ll do you go thru all the trouble of adoptin’ a child, from Russia mind you, decide you don’t wanna be Mommy, and put the 7-year-old child on a plane back to Russia by himself with a note sayin’ you “no longer wished to parent this child”????.
